Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is literally, superficial sanding of the skin, resulting in deeper exfoliation of thickened epidermis and results in the smoother more even appearing skin texture and tone. Microdermabrasion involves the use of tiny crystals blown onto the skin in a closed loop type system. This process helps to remove more superficial skin cells revealing the fresher, healthier skin below. Microdermabrasion is very popular "lunch time" peel, which can be also combined with chemical peels for more dramatic results.
Who can benefit from microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion can improve fine lines, wrinkles, sun damaged skin, mild acne scarring, enlarged pores, rough skin texture, uneven skin tone etc.
How many treatments will be necessary?
Depending on reason for treatment, microdermabrasion is a gradual process that can require multiple treatments. Some superficial skin conditions such as shallow brown age spots, tired aged skin, and large pores may improve after a few treatment sessions. Fine lines and wrinkles, sun damaged skin, and other deeper skin problems will require more sessions. For most skin conditions, a series of 5 to 6 treatments is initially recommended, but there is no limit to the number of treatments that can be performed if necessary. 2 – 4 weeks recovery time should be allowed between each microdermabrasion session. Longer or shorter treatment schedules could be recommended as they are based on each individual.
Are there any side effects?
Minimal redness or flushing of the skin may appear after a treatment. This is normal, and your skin may have slightly wind-burned feeling. This should dissipate within 2 to 48 hours after the treatment. If any scabbing or crusting does appear, it can be treated with gentle cleansing and antibiotic cream. This is very rare occurrence. We advise you not to wear make-up within 24 hours post treatment to avoid complications.
Can it be used on all skin types?
Microdermabrasion is safe for most skin types. Those with severe rosacea and/or severe active acne are not candidates for this procedure. However, for most skin conditions and colours, microdermabrasion is a very safe and effective way to treat their skin. A free consultation is recommended to ensure a customized treatment for each individual.
Is microdermabrasion painful?
No. Very fine crystals are blown onto the skin through hand held nozzle and at the same time the used crystals along with the dead skin cells are hygienically vacuumed away through the same hand piece. You may feel a little scratchy or rough like sensation. Some areas may feel a little more sensitive that others, but it is a very comfortable experience.
Can all ages get microdermabrasion treatment?
Microdermabrasion is designed to prevent the signs of aging and to assist with certain skin conditions and imperfections. If someone has a young and healthy skin, there is no need to treat it. Perhaps a relaxing facial would be a good option. For teenagers with active acne we will postpone the session or decide on an alternative procedure.
